We’re excited to launch a new way of supporting children: Compassion Community.

Rather than sponsoring an individual child and exchanging letters with them, your regular gift helps fund entire church projects to serve children living in poverty.

Our proven child development model remains the same for Compassion Community: providing spiritual encouragement, nutritional support, educational resources, health checks, and care in every area of a child’s life. This new model allows us to work in areas where communities face instability, making one-to-one sponsorship more challenging.

It works!

We’ve seen positive results from our multi-year pilot in Karamoja, Uganda.

The poverty rate in the Karamoja region is the highest in Uganda at 60.2%, compared to the national average of 21.4%. These communities face critical challenges: low education enrolment, extreme hunger, high prevalence of malaria and maternal mortality, alcoholism, and domestic violence.

Emmanuel Ahimbisibwe, National Director of Compassion Uganda, reports on our work in Karamoja:

“Originally, school enrolment was one of the causes of high illiteracy rates and one of the greatest challenges. We are glad to report that school enrolment for participants in this programme in one community is at 100%, with all 252 children now enrolled in school. For the first time, we also have a child who will be sitting for Primary Seven level (the final stage of primary school) this year.”
